I have a friend who got #2 discharge in the army. He was not suppose to deployed because his hearing got messed up in training in Columbus, GA. He is from Alabama and he told me you can only get a GI Bill if you received #1 Honorable if you resided in Alabama when you applied for the Army and if you were living their when you get out. Is this true? He was told this by a lawyer. He told me that he would have to move to another state that would give him the GI benefits under #2 or less conditions, but he wasn't sure how long he would have to live in that state to get the GI bill. He also told me that you have to be currently enrolled in school to get the GI. I told him that I thought I heard of people who got the G bill and did not directly use it for school. I want to say that my bosses son uses it to help pay for the apartment he and his wife and baby live in, plus other things to support the baby. I didn't think GI bill money had to be directly used for college. My dad was in the Navy, and I want to say it was after he was in college, because he was an RC PO Yeomen E-5. I have looked at some benefits sites, but might have to look into it a little bit more.
