I know *how* to do it, I just don't know which way is the right direction for summer. Clockwise, or counter clockwise?

  1. put it on high and stand underneath it, going both directions.  The summer direction should be blowing the air down toward you (to keep air conditioning down where the people are)  The winter direction should blow the air up toward the ceiling, circulating the heat through the room.

  2. You want the fan to draw air up in the summer, to pull the cooler air from the floor and circulate it.  In the winter, you want it to blow the warm air from the ceiling down.  Hope this helps.

  3. Summer direction is counterclockwise. Stay cool
