How can I do this, I really do not know where to start, do you need to take off the entire lower unit or can you simply remove the small oval plate to get to it. Anybody have some suggestions on where to find info? I think I just need a general idea, it does not have to be that same year and HP.

  1. you need to take the lower unit off and the waterpump is on the top of the lower unit, unscrew the four nuts and carefully lift the housing up the shaft, being carefull not to damage the housing or the gasket. there is a shaft key that holds the impeller, take good care of getting the inner bowl housing up the shaft once you have the housing off take the old rubber impeller out and replace it with the new kit that you will get... after you replaced the impeller, put a little grease in on the rubber impellers and place the unit back on the shaft and with the shaft key in place. and replace the housing and becarefull tightening the nuts as you can crack the housing, only a 1/4 turn for tightening is sufficent. and you are ready to do the reverse process of  mounting the lower unit back in place..

  2. Every engine I have heard of needs the lower unit removed.
