i've done what it said to do to change the region code:

"1. Switch player on, making sure that there's no disc in the tray.

2. Close tray.

3. Using the remote control, key in the following: MENU, 1, 9.

4. A menu will appear with the region option near the bottom of the screen.

5. Press ENTER, enter the desired region AND PRESS ENTER again to save the desired region.

6. Next press OPEN / CLOSE."

but when i insert the disk, it still says "bad disc".

is there any other way to make this work?

  1. Here's what it says at the link below:

    Cyberhome CD-DVD 655 / CH-DVD 300 / CH-DVD 320 / CH-DVD 401 / CH-DVD 635 / CH-DVD 4010 / CH-DVR 2500 / CH-LDV 1010A / CH-LDV 1010B portable / CH-LDV 700B

Turn on the player (without a disc inserted)

    Close the disc tray

    Press MENU, 1, 9

    Selection menu will be displayed

    Press ENTER

    Select region

    Press OPEN/CLOSE, insert foreign disc

The only difference I see is that this instruction doesn't say to press enter again to save the region.  Try it and see.  Some of these instructions are wrong.  You could try the instructions of model numbers close to this one and see if they work.

At the second site below it says this:

Region code hack posted by Frank, December 13 2003:

I tried this on my new CH-DVD 300, its a super unit and for the price of $34.99 at Bransdmart USA (Palm Beach, FL) its a good buy. Manufactured October 2003 (S/W Version 300S.20.03)

What I did with mine to make it region free is Switch player on and make sure there is no disc in the tray.

    Close tray and press menu,1,9.

Change the region to 0, click enter and click the Eject, this closed the menu... The settings stay even if I remove the power from the device.

    I have tested with:

    Region 1 NTSC

    Region 2 PAL

    Region 3 NTSC

The DVD handled the PAL 50 to NTSC 60 conversion in colors with no problems.

Since this unit is being sent as a christmas present for some relatives in Europe, I tested this DVD player setting it as PAL and tested it to play both NTSC and PAL movies in this mode, both of them worked great and where in colors.

To add to that, this unit is great because it can handle 110 - 230 Volts and 50/60 HZ.
