Question:

Changing the resolution on a computer to widescreen?

I am currently using a tiny laptop with the standard 4:3 ratio screen. I also have a samsung widescreen LCD TV which I can plug the laptop into for watching things like iPlayer. When I plug the laptop into the TV the picture is stretched. I right clicked the desktop and went into the properties but there is not resolution option for widescreen. The only options it gave me were

800x600

1024x768

1280x1024

1600x1200.

If you change the ratio on the TV you lose some of the picture. I have plugged the same TV into my desktop and there is no problem at all. The computer automatically detects the TV and alters the ratio to widescreen.

Are there any drivers I can download to enable more resolution options?

  1. You video card is unable of handling the required resolutions for the TV.

  2. hi don't clone the image or you'll only get the same resolutions as the laptop, span the image and it should be able to pickup the proper screen resolutions for the tv. if it's not picking up the screen res after this, download the very latest graphics drivers for the laptop including any screen management software

  3. Your video card does not support wide screen, nothing more you can do

  4. Depends on the video card in your laptop, wide-screen resolutions might not be supported.
