Changing the running speed of a Mountfield SP530 Petrol lawnmower engine?

How do I do it or any manuals on the web? Its running too low and cuts out.

  1. It's likely that the motor not running properly as the governor only operates to limit speed. Maybe the mixture needs adjustment. There should be a s***w for this, with a spring under the head, on the carb. Turn it very slowly in to weaken out to enrich the mixture while the motor is running and up to normal temperature. You should be able to raise the rpm to the working speed. It is best to err on the rich side as this will provide good starting and power.


  2. I think they are sealed and regulated so its not user adjustable.

    You could try giving the air cleaner a clean though, its mounted just above the fuel tank, undo the one s***w on the top, remove, clean the sponge filter in washing up liquid and water then dry and soak in oil. It affects the fuel air mixture and that would affect engine performance.

  3. There is what is called a governor on the thing..It is usually mounted on top of the carburetor and has a small metal rod with a spring on it.. You can slightly bend the rod..or shorten and make the spring stronger will increase speed..
