Question:

Changing your nose piercing and retainer help!!! Pretty important.?

I've had my nose pierced for a little over a month.

Schools next Monday, and my high school doesn't allow any piercings other than ear piercing (its really messed up). I'm going to have to change my current nose ring (an L-Shape) to a clear retainer. I'm not sure if I should(thought i HAVE to) or if it will irritate the piercing. Any tips on switching it?

& If you've ever used this type of retainer:

How did it work out? They have no back to them, and that has me worrying that it'll slip out of my nose. Thats the kind I just bought, so hopefully they work well. Has anyone used that type before?

  1. Lucite is plastic. Plastic is bad. Your piercing isn't healed yet. Plastic is porous, so it will promote bacteria growth.

That said, since it's thursday night and you said school starts monday, it will have to do for now. The link says they can be bent. I'd put one in very carefully, bend it, and leave it alone until you can get a better quality retainer. If you can't bend it, do try to get your hands on some o-rings. The other thing is, though that picture doesn't really look like it, a nose bone generally has t bead/gem/whatever at one end and is slightly flared at the other. That means every time you put it in or take it out, your piercing has to stretch over the flare. Not good, for what should be obvious reasons.

Quartz glass is acceptable for healing piercings, because it is not porous. It can even be auoclaved so it's completely sterile. I've put a link for those below. They're also sold at the site listed previously. Hopefully that will help you out. Good luck!

  2. I had to do the same thing for work...I used the same retainers and because you aren't fully healed it will come out easy.  what I did for the first month was put either a small piece of flesh colored bandaid over the ring (not the whole bandaid, just a small square) and blend with make up or use a fabric medical tabe that you buy at a drug store and do the same thing that'll cover it.

Putting in the retainer now will irritate it and take it longer to heal!

  3. Those do tend to come out rather easily, by sneezing, or even touching your nose.

I would maybe to to find an o ring (look in my source for a good website)

That website used UPS, and you can get your stuff in 3-4 days. I have ordered there MANY times, and love them.

Since they are SO cheap, I would suggest getting 10-20, since you will probably lose a few.

  4. link doesn't work
