Channel 7 Olympics coverage v AFL coverage... what do you think so far?

Question

After botching the opening ceremony by overrunning it with advertisments, it has become apparent that channel 7 have also FAILED to make many Australians aware of Gold Medal performances by our team! I was mortified to find out that we won another gold in rowing on a Tasmanian news bulletin instead of the Channel 7 Olympics coverage that I have had running contantly everyday! I dont know why we have to watch Micheal Phelps every half hour (yes what he did was amazing but does it need so much coverage on Australian tv?), yet no coverage is given to our own successful athletes. If I hadnt been watching the Olympics constantly all week, I would most likely have no idea what medals the Australians have won! Our reporters responsibility should be to let us know how our own athletes are going!!!

Where is the patriotism of our reporters in Beijing?

Do you think that Channel 7 bit off more than they can chew when it comes to broadcasting AFL and the Olympics?

Are we just missing out purely becasue of AFL telecasts and if so, why cant they brief us when we come back?

Is this being done better in the non-AFL states?

Cos it sure as h**l isnt working in Tasmania!!!

arghh Channel 7 **** me.

They show continuous replays of the bloody swimming over and over again, are they not aware that people are interested in sports other than swimming. Sure, what Phelps did was outstanding, but there's no need to show replays and highlight packages of it every half an hour. Now the athletics have started they'll show non-stop replays of that too. I reckon I've seen Bolt's 100m run about 4 times, and he only won the bloody thing last night.

Continuous ad's about their upcoming shows, good advertising, but it s***s me!! I've been watching a bit of SBS, they show full games and don't chop and change between replays to live events and the good thing is they show a wide range of sports not just swimming like ******* Channel 7.

Anyway, as for the question - the AFL coverage. It's still pretty p**s poor, but it's better than the Olympics coverage.

Channel 7 is the worse channel to have AFL on!

10 shows live games every now and then and so did 9 but channel 7 is so cheap that they only show live games now that the olympics are on

...........thats because they miss 3 hours anyways so it doesnt matter for them but before they get more viewers for homes&gardens then delayed afl than live afl!!!

i absolutely hated channel 7's footy and friday, camera was all over the place and they went to adds after pies won without seeing song, then they had like 5 min of adds and the coverage of hackett was a heat and wasnt live cos i heard the result on the radio, bring back chanel nine!!!

Loise Maree - I totally agree. Especially about Michael Phelps. I complained to the missus today about having to regularly change the chanel due to C7's instance of plastering Michael Phelps over the screen so often. It might be a slightly less irritating if Phelps was a gracious sportsperson.

And to top it off, we've had to put up with that condescending moron Bruce McAvaney all through the swimming with his inane petty statistics - we now have to go through it all again with the athletics. I have been turning over to SBS & watching their coverages.

They don't get all the top Aussie sports but what they do get is presented in a far more professional manner.

Channel seven are hopeless at broadcasting any sports! Their football coverage was atrocious on Friday night, the camera didn't even focus on the play! The Olympic coverage has been riddled with advertisements, and irrelevant events. I say let Channel 9&10 cover all the sports!

Bring the footy back to Channel 9!

You ask if the Olympics coverage is as bad in the non AFL states, I would not know the answer to this question as I was totally sick of the Olympics before they started as every ad break 7 was spouting how great it was going to be.

In QLD 7 and WIN push anything to do with AFL back till almost midnight and sometimes just don't put on a game at all, I wish some of the people that pay top dollar for ads during AFL telecasts would had enough guts to insist on large discounts or better time slots as this is the only way tv stations will ever clean up thier act and start trying to satisfy the viewers.

I am afraid Ch7 has really mucked up they should have handed over the rights to Ch10 for the footy during the olympics more  would have been thought of their coverage

I have preferred to watch the olympics on SBS coz when you start watching a game, they will actually show all of it!! I can't stand the Chanel 7 lets watch 2 minutes of volleyball, 30 seconds of basketball, Michael Phelps 396 times each hour... drives me insane! And the Ad's don't even get me started on the ad breaks.... (I believe I heard Sam say on the footy show the other night that channel 9 is covering the next games??)

As for the combo of afl & olympics - we in Perth actually get to see the games more live than normal! (IE on a Friday night, we usually get AFL @ 8:30 our time whereas now we get it at 7:00)
