  1. OMG your serious arent you?

They are situated in the English Channel off the coast of England (they are closer to France than England though)!

  2. The Channel Islands are a group of islands in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy.

  3. Technically, the Channel Islands aren't part of the UK.  They're located near France.  Rather than being part of a Kingdom, the ruler has the title of the Duke of Normandy despite the detail that most of Normandy became part of France again hundreds of years ago, and despite the detail that the present Duke has a further job being the Queen of England.

Defence and foreign policy is decided by the UK government.  Although the currency is pounds and pence of the same value as the UK's currency, several islands also issue their own local money.  That's not officially valid in the UK whereas UK money is allowed in the Channel Islands.  Lots of local matters, including taxes, are decided either by local parliaments or mini feudal rulers.

Particularly entertaining is the small island of Sark.  The ruler is the Seigneur, and he's theoretically only answerable to the Duke of Normandy.  There have been reforms since the system was established in 1565, but it's still the case that nobody else on Sark is allowed to own pigeons or unsterilized adult b*****s, and the Seigneur is duty-bound to maintain a private army.

A significant side effect of this limited independence from the UK is the scope it provides for tax evasion.  The banking sectors of Jersey and Guernsey are vastly out of proportion for local needs.

  4. The Channel Islands are a group of islands in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy. They comprise two separate bailiwicks: the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey, both British Crown dependencies, and have a total population of about 160,000. The respective capitals, St. Peter Port and St. Helier have populations of 16,488 and 28,310. The Channel Islands are not part of the UK.

  5. The Channel islands are grouped off the coast of Normandy, France directly south of England.  They include the islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark.   They are governed by the United Kingdom, similar to an external territory.
