will i be able to keep a channel catfish in a 40 gallon tank?

  1. Yeah, unfortunately they just get really big, and usually pretty quickly.

    They'd quickly outgrow a 40gal.  

    As stated a 1000+ pond or tank is best.  

    You also cannot have them with small fish, as they will become food.


  2. No, they get a few feet, 1000 gallon minimum for 1, 1500 for 2.

  3. For a while, when young, yes.  When full-grown these fish can reach 50 pounds, and the world record is 58.

    If you plan on keeping this fish for 2-3 decades, you'll need a much larger tank.

  4. They are the kind of catfish that people use to stock outdoor ponds. I don't think it would be a good idea to put it in an aquarium. It would need a huge tank.
