Channing Crowder claims he was spat upon
Channing Crowder was apparently upset by more than just the final score when he left the field on Sunday 7 November after his Miami Dolphins (4-4) fell to the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) by a count of 26-10. The Miami linebacker alleged that he was spit upon
by Ravens fullback Le’Ron McClain.
The incident reportedly happened after the two got into a heated exchange during the contest’s third quarter. When he was first asked about the situation, Crowder shied away from the discussion. “I just got told not to talk about it, so I can’t talk about it,”
he initially told reporters, according to ESPN.com.
However, it was obvious that the sixth-year player out of the University of Florida was not going to let what occurred go without notice, continuing on the topic just seconds later. “Le’Ron McClain spit in my face. He spit in my face. So if you talk to him,
go tell him. And if he ever comes to Miami, he’s got to see me.”
As part of a profanity-riddled tirade to post-game reporters, Crowder called the Ravens fullback out, holding a lot of frustration and anger towards McClain.
“That’s the first time I’ve ever been spit in my face in my life,” the linebacker said. “And that’s the worst thing you can do to a man as another man, spit in somebody’s face. Why would you do that? Why would you try to? Because you’re scared of me? Really?
Spit on me and then walk away real fast and let your team protect you? That’s what he did.”
McClain, however, denies Crowder’s claims, and insists that he perpetrated no actions outside of the rules of competition. “We got into a little head-butt competition, but no spit, man,” the four-year veteran said, according to ESPN.com. “Probably me talking,
I don't know. But all the spitting and all that ain’t my game. I play ball in between the whistles.”
In the midst of his rebuttal, McClain simply sees a man who’s upset with his play, as well as the game’s result. “I guess he’s a little frustrated. That’s all that is.”
