Phoenix Suns forward suffering from a heart condition; likely to be out for the entire next season.....
Channing Frye will to have to miss the whole of next season due to an enlarged heart.
The Phoenix Suns management has been reluctant on announcing a definitive time period. However in a recently given interview to Arizona Republic, the 29 year old power forward/centre dispelled any doubts by declaring that he is
most likely to miss next season because of the critical nature of his condition.
“I want to take a year off and make sure that I’m OK to play and that I’m not going to do any more damage to my heart,” Frye said. “There’s no reason to push. It’s not worth it for the long run. To be 29 and have a heart issue
is very rare. Other than that, I had a clean bill of health. I’m a 120-over-78 blood pressure guy.”
Frye also contemplated on his condition that he suffers a dilated cardiomyopathy which has been caused as a result of a rare virus.
He also acknowledged that it was a cause of great concern when he was made aware of his condition following routine physical check-up. And believes that the critical nature of his condition is going to prevent him from coming back
any time sooner than next season.
Frye is going to take his time in coming back. He is not willing to make an early return and risk his well being. With a heart condition at his age, Frye also has to consider what is long term future holds. There have been examples
of Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox of the Boston Celtics and Chuck Hayes of the Sacramento Kings who missed a whole season while rehabbing.
On the other hand the reluctance from the Suns management to announce a definitive time period also seems justified as they would not want to lose a player who averaged 10.5 points per game last season with all the necessary confirmations.
