Chantal VanLandeghem occupies Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day four – Canadian Summer Nationals
Chantal VanLandeghem of MANTA occupied gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Sunday, July 22.
The 18-year-old VanLandeghem stunned the aquatic crowd with her fascinating form in the single lap freestyle discipline as she smothered her opponents by capturing gold medal of the event.
Her impeccable effort remained almost half body length ahead of her following swimmer as she touched the wall with the timing of 25.16 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Sandrine Mainville of PPO, who stayed 0.40 seconds behind and occupied silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 25.56 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Victoria Chan of RHAC Predators, who stayed 0.37 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and finished third in the discipline by clocking a time of 25.93 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Caroline Lapierre-Lemire of Megophias, who stayed only 0.13 seconds slower from upsetting her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 26.06 seconds.
The 21-year-old Lapierre-Lemire was chased by Michelle Williams of NYAC, who stayed 0.05 seconds away from improving her spot and secured fifth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 26.11 seconds.
Subsequently, Williams was followed by Chantique Payne of GMAC, who remained 0.06 seconds slower from overpowering her and tapped the finishing blockade as sixth fastest swimmer of the race by reporting a time of 26.17 seconds.
Payne was traced by Ariana Mainville of CAMO, who suffered a deficit of 0.24 seconds from her preceding swimmer and made her way to the finishing end as seventh fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 26.41 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by Rebecca Terejko of WRMS, who was only 0.07 seconds away from Mainville and transpired on the finishing blockade by reporting a time of 26.48 seconds.
In addition, VanLandeghem elevated hopes of her supporters by saying that she would increase her struggle to shine at the superior levels of international swimming.
