Chaos Space Marines Black legion?

I love the look of the black legion, and it's easy (i'm a terrible painter)

but I want to be different, do many people use black legion (sorta like EVERYONE has an ultramarines chapter) or am i safe?

if not, anyone know how to paint a red corsair army?

As a fellow Chaos player, I play the Word Bearers.  Now that the new codex is out, all of the "regular" traitor legions (Black Legion, Alpha Legion, Word Bearers, and Night Lords) are basically all the same rule-wise.  I have never played against a pure Black Legion army, so its not as popular as the Ultras.  One of my friends started Black Templars (loyalist scum) because of the easy paint scheme, and grew to love the army.  

What I would do as a Black Legion player, is to buy squads of Thousand Sons, Emperors Children, Plague Marines, and/or Khorne Berzerkers.  It'll give you practice with painting different paint schemes, and also stay true to the theme of the Black Legion.  Since the Black Legion is the "main" Chaos legion, they tend to be the ones to pull a Black Crusade (like a big evil warband) together.  Afterall, with the Black Legion, you get Abaddon.  He's not called "The Warmaster of Chaos" because he likes to cuddle.

So go ahead and play the Black Legion!
