Chapa Uno Hope Funds edge past La Aguada BMW in the Argentina Open Polo Championship
Chapa Uno Hope Funds finally broke its losing streak, as it defeated La Aguada BMW in the second match of the Argentina Open Polo Championship that took place at the Cathedral of Polo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The victory was quite a surprise for everyone except the Chapa Uno players, as they displayed a fantastic show, winning the game with a difference of two goals, 9-7.
Both, Chapa Uno and La Aguada BMW, battled up and down the field with classic shorts and impressive hits. Nonetheless, no single point was scored in the first seven and a half minutes of play.
The slow-paced game continued in the second period where only a single goal was scored from Nacho Astrada. La Aguada was sitting on top by a single-notch advantage, 1-0.
In the third period, Chapa Uno started playing aggressively, acquiring its first goal at the hands of Polito Pieres. However, Ignacio Toccalino broke the deadlock by converting a penalty shot and earning the lead for La Aguada.
The fourth set of play belonged to Chapa Uno completely. The team earned four goals while shutting La Aguada off the scoreboard.
Jaime Huidobro started the action with a penalty conversion while his teammate, Polito Pieres, notched three goals in the latter part of the period.
The two foursomes moved into the second half with Chapa Uno leading the score by 5-2, with four chukkas left to play.
The fifth frame of play opened with a goal from Rodrigo Andrade but it was countered by a goal from Nacho Astrada. After five sets of play, La Aguada was trailing by three goals, 6-3.
La Aguada showed signs of life in the sixth frame. Eduardo Astrada unfolded the period with a goal from the field, reducing the Chapa Uno’s lead down to two notches.
It was the period where Chapa Uno showed its real worth with fine moves and attacks. Its strategies were no less than wonderful to deny La Aguada a chance for an equalisation.
Huidobro whacked a long penalty shot from the midfield position while his teammate, Guillermo Caset, also converted a penalty shot, increasing the Chapa Uno’s advantage up to four goals, 8-4.
Despite having plenty of chances, La Aguada failed to mark goals, and was four goals down at the end of the sixth chukka.
After Pieres missed a long shot, Andrade took the rebound and expanded the lead for Chapa Uno up to five goals, 9-4. In a counterattack, Nacho Astrada converted a penalty shot to prove their presence on the field.
Nacho Astrada opened the final chukka with a couple of penalty shots but they could not save his team from a humiliating defeat.
Chapa Uno won the match by 9-7 that was its first triumph in the Argentina Open Polo Championship.
