Chapchai Nirat and Simon Dyson share the lead at the Barclays Singapore Open
Chapchai Nirat continued his strong form in the second round of the Barclays Singapore Open, to retain the share of the lead, prior to the inclement weather forcing the game to be suspended on Friday, November 9, 2012.
The tournament is being played at the Sentosa Golf Club, where the heavy rains and thunderstorms have affected each of the first two rounds.
Nirat was three-under for the round on day one when the game halted due to risk of heavy thunderstorms.
He then resumed his opening round on Friday and added another three birdies to his scorecard to surge to the top of the leaderboard.
Soon after, he returned to play his second round and mixed two birdies with two bogeys on the back nine, before the heavy rain showers hit the venue course.
Simon Dyson, in the meantime, started off his second round campaign with a four-stroke deficit against Nirat.
Starting off on the 10th hole, he parred each of the first two holes, before birdying the 12th hole. He then added more shots on the 14th and the 18th hole to reach the turn in three-under.
The back nine of the course also witnessed him make a strong start, as he birdied the first hole and parred the next three holes to surge to the top of the leaderboard.
He was moving to the fifth tee, when had to return to his tent due to the inclement weather.
At the end of the day, he was pleased with his flawless performance in the suspended round. He now plans to keep the momentum going into the rest of the tournament to record his first Asian Tour victory in six years.
The Asian Tour and the European Tour officials are now expecting a stretched final round on Sunday. Moreover, they are also not ruling out the chance of extending the final round to Monday.
“At present, our aim is still to complete 72 holes, weather permitting. We hope to finish the second round at approximately 3.15pm tomorrow, at which time there will be a re-draw for round three, which will not start before 4pm,” said Jittisak Tamprasert
and Jose Maria Zamora, Tournament Directors of the Barclays Singapore Open.
They added, “The third and fourth rounds would then be played with the same draw, which would allow us to finish at approximately 5.15pm on Sunday, provided there are no further delays”.
