Chapter 7 Bankruptcy question??

Here's the scenario. My father has recently passed away and now my mother lives on her own and has to pay the bills. She has home bills and many credit card bills, but doesnt really make enough to make ends meet. Can she file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and what are the cons to filing chapter 7?

They have changed the laws for bankruptcy.  They no longer swipe away past debt in most instances.  She will still have to pay her debts, the judge would actually be making the "decision" on that one.
