The author of the Quran states in Chapter 9 Verse 30:
AND THE JEWS SAY: EZRA IS THE SON OF ALLAH, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their saying with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah (Himself) fighteth against them. How perverse are they!
Whenever I pose this verse to a Muslim they say something along the lines of "the Quran is talking about a group of Jews at Muhammad's time". Fair enough. Good explanation.
But a slight problem. Right next to Ezra, Jesus is mentioned. And as we all know Jesus is regarded as the son of God by Christians.
So is it fair to put a herectical group's belief of one religion on par with the fundamental beliefs of another?
But what about Shia Muslims? Do not certain groups of Shia use their Imams as intermediates to reach Allah?
So would this (made up) verse be considered valid and correct?
AND THE JEWS SAY: EZRA IS THE SON OF ALLAH, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah, AND THE MUSLIMS SAY: THEIR IMAMS ARE THE SONS OF ALLAH. That is their saying with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah (Himself) fighteth against them. How perverse are they!
As you can see in my (made up) verse I said "THE MUSLIMS" meaning all Muslims use the Imams as intermediates.
Would it be fair of me to judge a whole religion on a specific group of heretics?
If no, then why does the author of the Quran make such a generalization of Jews.
Therefore confusing the reader into thinking that all Jews worship Ezra?
