  1. First, I am a Filipino

    I want to clear that this trait originated from the Spanish conquerors.(they call it "siesta")

    Majority of the Filipinos (specially farmers) do not want to work when the sunlight is too strong (for the obvious reasons).

    Also, Philippines is a country which is gifted with rich natural resources so we Filipinos think that we should not work hard to make the both ends meet.

  3. They seem to work hard enough to me, though most of it is looking after kids, scrubbing floors, etc.

Like all people living in a very hot country they avoided going out or doing strenuous work during the hottest hours of the day to avoid heatstrokes, doing it instead early in the morning or later in the evening. To Europeans used to a temperate climate where their most productive hours were those same hours this was not a sign of adaptation to a hot climate but of laziness.

    If you look around you will see that everyone from those hot areas had the same reputation. Mexicans, Spaniards, etc...
