Question:

Chargeback on item sold on ebay?

I sold a gift card to someone back in March and she paid through PayPal and her address is confirmed. All of a sudden, I get a hold on my PayPal funds because she did a chargeback with her credit card company. I researched and saw that if her address was unconfirmed, I would be SOL but her address is confirmed. Will I still lose this money??

  1. Hi Kelly,

I shop a lot on EBay and I really not sure, but if they said, She did a charge-back with the company's credit card you may lose it.. I would try to fine out where she has her credit card with and have the bank check this out.. I hope this works out for you My Friend..Plus Ebay is probably checking this out and that's why your on hold..Good Luck My Friend..

  2. eBay recently changed the rules so Sellers can not longer give Buyers 'Negative' feedback ..  so there is no longer any 'penalty' for a Buyer to claim 'non-delivery' ..

I expect even the most honest Buyers will be tempted to do the occasional 'charge back' now ... and the fraudsters will have a field day ..

PS PayPal is a Business, not a Bank .. they are ONLY interested in avoiding taking a loss themselves .. for this reason, they ALWAYS pass charge-backs onto the Seller .. and then 'freeze' their accounts .. it can take 180 days (6 months) for PayPal to 'decide' who was 'in the wrong' - during this time, if the Seller takes action to recover their money (or tries to prevent PayPal passing the fraud onto them), PayPal then assumes the seller is 'in on' the fraud ..

  3. Contact PayPal, and let them know that you received positive feedback for this sale.  Your buyer has committed an act of fraud, and they can go to jail for it.  PayPal will fight the chargeback though.  Just give them all the information you have.

Confirmed addresses are no longer a requirement for sellers in the US, but for something sold in March a confirmed address was a requirement.

  4. contact the ebay for your money
