Chargers game expected to be blacked out on Sunday

If you live in Southern California, you’re probably going to be a San Diego Chargers fan and if you were looking forward to watching the Chargers on TV, you might just be out of luck.

The Chargers still have around 8,000 unsold tickets for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and if those tickets remain unsold, expect the game to be blacked out in the local area.

"We're disappointed, but from a couple weeks out we thought this was a possibility," executive vice president A.G. Spanos said.

The Chargers have until 1:15 p.m. PST Thursday to announce a sell-out, but can request an extra 24-hours from the NFL. If San Diego does fail to sell-out the game it will end a streak of 48 straight sell-outs, including the play-offs. The Chargers haven’t had a black-out since 2004 when they played the New Orleans Saints.

The Chargers’ weekend defeat at Kansas City hasn’t helped the situation and the continued absence of Vincent Jackson is unlikely to get the fans into the stadium.

"I know fans will be disappointed, and we're disappointed," Spanos said.
