Chargers reportedly have no intention of trading Jackson
Despite giving Vincent Jackson permission to speak with the Seattle Seahawks last week, sources have said that the San Diego Chargers have no plans to trade him. Jackson’s agent Neil Schwartz said that while he does have permission to speak with the Seahawks, no progress was made towards a contract.
Schwartz said that as soon as he was granted permission to speak with the Seahawks, other teams figured Jackson was up for grabs, but that was not the case. The Chargers only granted Seattle permission and once the Seahawks learned of the money Jackson was asking for, they balked.
"After the initial story came out, I got calls from four or five other teams asking about Vincent," Schwartz said, "but I told them I didn't have permission to talk to them about that player and they had to call San Diego."
Schwartz asked the Chargers’ management if he could speak with the other teams and was told no. The Chargers also have a list of teams in which they would not trade Jackson to and Schwartz claims he was given no clear answer as to how the team could facilitate a trade.
"I asked for that list of teams, but they wouldn't tell me," Schwartz said. "So I asked them, 'What are you guys asking for a trade?' And he said, 'I'm not telling you.' At that point, I said, 'It doesn't sound like you guys want to trade Vincent.'"
Jackson is already on the Chargers’ roster exempt list, meaning he will have to sit out the first three games when or if he returns. He also has to serve a three game suspension after a DUI charge last winter.
This has been an ongoing problem for the San Diego Chargers and you have to wonder where it will go from here. If the Chargers were looking to trade Jackson, then they’d have given more teams permission to talk to him. They only let one team talk to him and that was probably in hopes of convincing Jackson he wouldn’t get the type of money he was after. Jackson is reportedly looking for a five-year $50 million deal with nearly $30 million guaranteed. No one knows when this situation will resolve itself but the smart bet is it won’t be resolved anytime soon.
