Charging a 12V ATV battery with charger.?

I borrowed my bosses charger the other day to charge my 12V ATV battery I took the battery out and connected + to + and - to - when I went to select the amperage to charge the battery all the charger did was fault out. Why is this?

The battery could be so dead or low on charge that it will not start charging right away. You can try and leave the charger on for a while and see if it starts to charge, if it does not after about 10 to 15 minutes, it probably will not take a charge and needs to be replaced. Take the old battery with you if you do buy a new one, most atv's take a certain size battery and this will insure you getting the right one the first time. Of course, it could be a faulty charger. To check this, just hook it up to another battery and see if it works. The other battery does not have to be low, even if it is not, charger will come on.
