And as they still went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and he cried, "My father, my father! the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" And he saw him no more." (2 Kings 2:8-12 RSV)

Elisha Watching Elijah In A Chariot Of Fire

22:10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet. 11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

How can i interpret this passage, the only thing that comes to my mind is some sort of object in sky. Can it be that the angels are aliens?

  1. Angels are alien to the majority of people, and demons more so.

  2. hmm your question carried some GRAVITY

The real aliens are us.  Our sins alienate us from God.

ELijah had a successor named Elisha who died a natural death and when another person dead body was  thrown on his grave site of Elisha;s bones  it got up rased from the dead - tawsn't aliens - twas God.   Even aliens if they existed follow the laws of entropy death and decay.  He was raised not against gravity  but against forses of death.  Even star trek ANY GENERATION cant do that.

Aliens can not carry you to GOD

and why would it be hard for a GOD who made 10 billion trillion stars with his fingers and the breath of His mouth to fly or have an angel fly or something else fly. So of course he could make angels fly or have flying tools - no big.

Riding upon a cherub is poetic.  The ark had two statures of giant cherubs,  some say posed as if pulling it as a chariot and throne for God to sit on.

The ark was carried on poles which had 4 rings to support it,  this is reminiscent of the four flying wheels  of Ezekiel with the Sapphire blue chariot in the sky

The archeologist RItmeyer has some interesting this on the ark

  3. The use of fire in a miraculous manner has often attended the Lord's dealings with men. "Cherubim and a flaming sword" (Moses 4:31; Gen. 3:24) barred Adam from returning to his edenic home. A pillar of fire guided ancient Israel by night (Ex. 13:21-22; Ps. 78:14), and the fires on her sacrificial altars were never permitted to go out. (Lev. 6:13.) Elijah called down fire from heaven in his contest with the priests of Baal (1 Kings 18), and also to consume the soldiers sent by Ahab to arrest him. (2 Kings 1.) And at the time of Elijah's translation, "a chariot of fire, and horses of fire," appeared to transport him "by a whirlwind into heaven." (2 Kings 2:11.)

Elijah departed dramatically from the earth in "a chariot of fire" (2 Kgs. 2:11), becoming a translated being reserved to fulfill a future mission (Smith, 191). Part of that mission was an appearance with Moses, another translated being, on the Mount of Transfiguration to bestow the keys of the  sealing power  on the apostles Peter, James, and John (Matt. 17:3;  Elias  in this verse is the Greek form of  Elijah ). These keys are the power to bind or loose on earth and in heaven (Matt. 16:19). They make all gospel ordinances valid for eternity as well as mortality.

  4. these 3 incidents were testimonies to Elijah's commission as a prophet of God..

get yourself a life application Bible or scholar Bible with footnotes!!

  5. you can try and interpret the spirit world with your human understanding but each time you will be far off.... just let the spirit world come to you... be open and let God reveal God's self to you...I don't think angels are aliens in the sense that you are asking...however they are aliens to this world because they have only been messengers here not humans... so. there is a difference.

  6. That's a description of Elijah's ascension. The other 2 ascensions in the Bible, Jesus and Enoch, are less dramatic.
