  1. Some does get done.  You don't hear about every school book purchased by every charity organization all around the world, of course.

But you have a valid question - how much of the money you give gets through to the people they are raising money for?  Next time you get a phone call from someone asking for a donation to some cause, ask them these questions:

Are you a professional fund raiser, or are you a fireman/social worker/police officer (or whatever organization who's name he mentions)

What percentage of donations stays with the fundraising company, and how much gets through to the people you're fundraising for?

Did they hire you to do this, or are you doing it on your own, and making a donation of whatever is left over?

Is your fundraising company non-profit, or do you take a profit from the money that is donated?

Do you keep a "do not call" list, and how does a person get listed on there?

Then make your decision to give or not accordingly.

If I am giving directly to the charity, I want to know that no more than 25% of the money gets spent on overhead, and that 75% goes towards helping the kids, or building schools, or buying barrels of brandy for the St. Bernards in the mountains, or whatever the cause is.

you can get much information in this website, If you will check anyone blue link in website.

  3. "Non-Profit" organizations still have overhead.  There are employees to pay, bills to pay, and sometimes (although I'm not dissing any organization) the big wigs at the top have their own accounts to get paid also.  On average, only a very small percentage of each dollar donated actually goes towards the cause.  I'm not saying that you should stop giving, even a few pennies to feed a child is better than nothing.  Every non-profit has to keep strict books identifying where each penny goes;  unfortunately, most does not end up where donors would like.

  4. celebrities are helping out a lot, by donating millions--you're right. but unfortunately, even millions will not solve the huge problems that are out there. it will take lots and lots of education, people willing to help, people continuing to help, and more money. it isn't all money that will take away teh problems...there needs to be willpower and people to be building the schools, and people to be FILLINg the schools to educate the coming generations.  if there is no one there to help initiate CHANGE, then it will be very difficult for things to improve...and they will keep needing money.

does that kind of explain it ? i hope you can get interested in volunteering! it's a fun experience.

also, UNICEF's website actually tells you where every cent goes. you may want to check out their site and see how they work!

  5. I don't really have an answer to your question but I do have a comment.... Don't really know where the money goes.. You have a point. Rich peopel are always giving money away to the people and countries who need it but nothing seems to get done. I pretty sure if you add up all the money that people have given to African Hospitals, they should have all the state of the art equipment to help people in the country.

But maybe the people who get the money use it to raise more money for other charities!!

  6. I actually heard a report on TV about donations to that children's international thing in Africa.. the children get about 40% of what comes in.. the rest goes to staff, advertising,  etc
