How have two charities got hold of my home address?

After being hounded by a charity that I donated to a few years ago, I now donate annonimously by cheque yet two charities have got my name and address from somewhere, my bank assures me that there is no possibility of them getting any info from them. I only have my name printed on my cheques. One of the charities is from overseas the other in the U.K. I recieved one this morning and I am puzzled as to how they got my info, has anyone else had this problem?

  1. Charities are like beggars; let one know you'll part with your money and the rest will flock to you like gulls after a tractor.

I wouldn't give charities the time of day, much less anything else.

  2. As we have recently found out, even the government share information, not refering to the lost tapes, but organisations such as the DVLA.

  3. If you have given toa  charity, they share info. Also, the post office sells your address. I been there and argued with the postmaster. They sellyour info, but if you want your info deleted from their mailing addresses, it is up to you to contact all those people that are sending you stuff.

  4. charities are good keep doing them

  5. There are huge companies that buy and sell mailing lists.   Apparently your info was on a list of donors or smply a list of ppl with certain characteristics that one of these comopanies bought and is now selling.  In the US Direct Marketing Assn maintains a do not contact list.  From your spelling of checque I'm guessing you are not in the US but your country may have a similar group that does the same thing. Meanwhile all they are doing is taking a tiny bit of space in your mailbox and wasting paper and trees. If you see it is from a charity you don't know just throw it away unopened.
