Charity Accounts (England)?

I am a trustee of an English charity. We qualify to have an indep[endent examination rather than an audit. I would like to know where in legislation I can find information clearly stating that the independent examiner CAN ALSO be the preparer of the accounts. I cannot beleive such to be the case as this is not independent but I am assured by the examiner apointed by the trustee board this is indeed the case.

  1. It sounds like a crazy principle to me, but I wouldn't be surprised, in this day and age of self-appointed PMs...

  2. The Charities Commission will send you books on Trustees, accounts etc. and they are free. Very informative and easy to follow. Sounds a bit odd to me as well as most charities have a Treasurer who prepares the accounts for audit.

  3. You either need to ring the Charities Commission or obtain a copy of the Charities Act.
