Charity Event Help ?!!?

Question

A friend and I have decided to organize a charity event to be held sometime during Spring of 2009. As of now, it's just an idea.

I need to know what holding a charity event involves. It's going to be a marathon. So what could we give out? Who could we donate to? What about food and drinks?
