Charity High1 Resort Open cancelled due to poor weather conditions
Charity High1 Resort Open, presented by SBS, has been called off after continuous delays due to poor weather conditions. The tournament taking place under the banner of OneAsia tour, kicked off at the High1 Country Club in Seoul.
The announcement was made by Ben Sellenger, who is the Chief Executive Officer of OneAsia tour.
“Unfortunately because of the weather we have encountered over the four days this week we have made the decision not only to cancel the second round on Sunday, but also to cancel the event. Because it is evident that we are not going to get through 36 holes,
the action has been taken after consultation with the sponsor,” he said.
The second round of the US$1-million event was postponed until Saturday, as heavy rains made the course unplayable for the field. When the round continued on Saturday, only three players managed to complete their second rounds. Around four hours from tee
time, rain hit the course once again, which compelled the officials to suspend the round until Sunday.
However, as the course conditions were not suitable for play to resume, OneAsia, Korean Golf Tour officials and the tournament sponsors unanimously agreed to cancel the tournament. They also agreed to distribute 50 percent of the total purse amongst 153
professional who completed their first round. However, these earnings will not be included in the points that will lead to the rankings on OneAsia Order of Merit.
Despite the fact that there was no winner of the tournament and the weather was extremely treacherous, the players loved the course. Sellenger told the press that although the players were frustrated by the horrible weather, they hailed the services provided
by the club and the facilities at the course.
Sellenger thanked the course management for their hospitality and said, “It’s a disappointing end to the week, but High1 definitely has a bright future with OneAsia.”
Charity High1 Resort Open is the latest addition to OneAsia schedule for this season.
