  1. stop prevaricating and decide yourself

is it money you want to give or your time or both

  2. If you feel this way, the best thing to give is your time.

  3. I represent a major uk plc company that runs a scheme, offering charities and organisations the opportunity to generate regular monthly funds, that would increase month on month. All YOU need to do is chose your charity of choice and put yourself forward as the administrator within our scheme. And you can start raising money for them...

  4. hold a fundraising event for a local charity. I work for a small charity (when i say small, i mean not as huge as oxfam or cancer charities.) These charities are already very successful, and it is the local small charities beavering away which struggle to find funding.

Our charity is a mobile community project which visits underprivillaged families in rural isolation and provides facilities which they need (we do consultation to find out what they need). We have a fully converted lorry which we take to their area and carry out youth work, childrens activities, young parent groups, information about health and lifestyle etc. We get our funds from government funding which we have to apply for like the Big Lottery, Children in Need, Childrens Fund etc but every penny which we are granted we have to use to their specification, so in order to get the money we have to do what the government want. For example at the moment the government are putting alot of focus on parenting and anti obesity, so in order for our charity to gain money this year, we have to set up projects to carry out this type of work! However is this what all of the families we work with require or want??

Some of them just want some help with learning to read and write for example!

Thats why donations are sooo valuable! Oxfam, Cancer research and all of the big charities who are all worthwhile are florishing and very successful because they can do what they want with the money which people donate. Our charity doesn't get many or hardly any donations because we carry out the work unoticed, as we are local and not national.

  5. How about sponsoring a child?

  6. Help the needy. That is charity.  The requirement of each individual may be different.  Money alone need not be the criterion for charity.  Good words and deeds, Help up to the requirement of the client...That is the mark of your charity.  In that sense even good counselling is a part of charity.     U.K.Atiyodi

  7. What about supporting a local charity, like a hospice?

  8. A great charity is Make a Wish Foundation.  I gave them all my alimony about a year ago.  They send you a letter telling you witch child received their wish and how much it made them smile.  But it's your money and I think that you should decide.

  9. Find one that you are interested in - that you believe in.  My favorites are Habitat for Humanity (building houses for families) and Heifer International (they buy animals for the poor, who use them to help others).  There's one that gives no-interest small business loans to women around the world, but I can't remember the name right now.  Locally, there are programs that educate children on safety or drug avoidance or help feed neighborhood families.

Find something that YOU are passionate about.  Check them out to make sure they are legit - then go for it.
