Question:

Charity Of Charities - Is there a website like this?

I know there are some web sites that list and rate charities, but are there any that work sort of like a clearinghouse for the transfer of donations as well? Sort of like the way your 401k works? You would contribute $100 or something each month through the web site and they would distribute it evenly or with some percentage across the charities you choose. The charities would not be given your personal contact information, but are sent an aggregate amount each month from all the donations that were made.

  1. Try this site:

    www.charitynavigator.org

    Hope it helps!

  2. An intriguing idea. I don't think there are any that are set up EXACTLY as you have described.

I give to Madre.org and Care.org, because they support initiatives focused on women and girls in developing countries; the NGOs that they support don't get my name, but they do get my money.

If you give to United Way, the organizations that then get that money at the end of the campaign do not get your name either.

There are a lot more organizations that follow this type of model. But, again, I don't think any do it exactly as you have described.

Many people want to give directly to organizations, because they feel that too much money goes to "administrative costs." I, on the other hand, prefer to give through organizations like CARE and Madre.org, because I know they will monitor the progress of these organizations, that they have strict criteria these organizations must meet, and that they help provide expertise to help these organizations do better work; therefore, I think my money does MORE good than it would if it were given to the organizations directly.

  3. You could read most of the most relevant verses from the holy Quran/Koran on charity. http://www.progressive-muslim.org/zakat-...

Giving charity is one of the most important thing to do for the cause of God only and not for show off.
