Charity ideas??

Okay. So I am the president of my school Key Club. For those of you who don’t know what Key Club is, it is a volunteer club we plan fundraisers and all the money we make go to different organizations. We help out at homeless shelters and stuff.

But the problem is that this is my first year on the board and we have lost a lot of members because we don’t really go anything.

What are some things we would do each week (in the school...because no one feels like driving anywhere.)? Like activities. Like what could we make that would be fun to do but still be for charity? And I would prefer if it were cheap to do

  1. Well, what we did at our school is Hats for Hearts (or it can be anything like.. Hats for ___ or Caps for ____). Basically, people buy the privelege to wear a hat during one school day, and have to wear a sticker. Without the sticker, they can't wear the hat. It's a fun, and easy, way to help people out!

  2. you can start by gathering your members.. develop the team first.. provide them some trainings and seminars.. team-building, etc.. then plan together on what the group wants to accomplish.. they themselves might have ideas.. you can email me for more details..

  3. Yay to Key Club!  I'm a former Kiwanian and Key Club Advisor, and I miss it tons!

    * Sponsor a book drive for your local Elementary School library (HS studenst bring in their old, used books and they go straight to the other school).

    * If your school and local law allow, ask the Red Cross to come in for a blood drive (might be limited to Seniors only).

    * When the weather gets nicer, sell water balloons for a water fight on the football field, and send the proceeds to your local food bank.

    * Ask your school principal and/or teachers if they'd be willing to sit at a dunk tank - you'd be surprised how many students will pay a few bucks to see their "favorite" teacher dunked!

    * Have a hot-dog eating contest...charge a small fee for audience "admission", including a hot dog for lunch.  Send the proceeds to the charity-of-choice for the winner of the contest.

    * Ask your local Red Cross office if there's a family in need in the neighborhood...Have a "Rock-a-Thon" to help them out, with sponsors paying club members by the hour to rock in a rocking chair.

Don't forget - whatever event you do, you need a sign that says, "Sponsored by the XXHS Key Club".  Also, keep this on all the stuff that you use for on-campus advertising.  The more the other students know that Key Club is doing fun things, the more they'll want to join!

Also, be sure to invite your Kiwanis Advisor to all of these events.  Not only do they want to be involved in what you're doing, it will help future Key Club members by establishing some history with the adults involved.

Feel free to email me if you have more questions.

  4. when i was in school, we don't usually ask always  for money.  we also ask for food or used but good clothings and we give those to the needy.  we also do sell things that will fit an occassion specially if its a holiday or any approaching occassion like ornament on christmas, candies on halloween etc.  Good Luck!
