For my Duke of Edinburugh award I have to do 3 months of volunteer charity work. I've tried old people homes but I'm not allowed because I have to have a police check and all the charity shops are filled up with volunteers or don't accept teenagers doing the award. So do you have any suggestions?

  1. food kitchens, picking up trash at the side of the road, maybe you can get your mom to volunteer with the SPCA (society prevention for cruelty of animals). And she can bring you along. I did that and it was fun--you tend to dogs, cats or rodents all day and help them get adopted.

  2. Paint over graffiti, that's what I did

  3. Human alienation has become a big problem.Nobody knows nobody.Neighbors are not known to each other. So you can start a program called know your neighbor. Then find out what kind of small help they required and try to negotiate with other neighbors if any body can do that.Suppose a old woman may need some compassion and hearing to get rid of her melancholy you can spare some time so that she will share her experiences and stories.

  5. Your church might be able to point you in the right direction. Or if you're not involved in church then I would contact one and ask if they may need some volunteers maybe with their youth or in other areas.  Also, contact hospitals, vet clinics, schools, and try some local businesses. Charity means helping those in need and any one of these organizations would be a good place to start or they may help guide you to another place.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Does Big Brothers, Big Sisters count? They are always looking for teenagers to be paired as a mentor with a younger kid.  It's a great way to make a difference and get in those hours.  Ask your school guidance counselor about programs in your area.

The March of Dimes is also always looking for volunteers to help, as well as the Red Cross.  Red Cross work can be as simple as helping set up for a blood drive or signing people in as the come through the door.

  7. See if you can work in a Soup Kitchen.I met lots of great people there (in the U.S.) who were down on their luck. You will meet all ages and different kinds of people.

  8. food banks, homeless shelters, picking up garbage, cleaning up parks, writing letters to soldiers, gathering up donations to good will, united way... clothing, coats, hats, scarves. etc..  collecting food for homeless shelters or food banks, rally your peers to help out.  reading to children in orphanages.

theres a million things you can do.  contact your local gov't office and ask them where there is a need. they will know.

    good luck

  9. I'm doing the DOE and for me it's been pretty easy comparitively. We have to contribute to society, not just charity.

I'm heavily into recycling and city cleanliness.

ask whoever's in charge if it HAS to be charity... or it can be anything.

Also... My main charity thing has been to participate in fundraising marathons and events. You can try that too.

I think sport also has a part in it somewhere... or no?

Where do you live (country) . It might help if we knew.

    Shame
