Charl Bouwer clinches Men’s 100m freestyle title: Day four - South African LC Nationals
Charl Bouwer of WPA-WP won gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle in the Multi-Class category of S1-S13 on day four of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Thursday, April 19.
The 22-year-old Bouwer served notice of his talent by snatching gold medal of the 100m discipline in his category. With his stupendous efforts, he remained comfortably ahead of his following swimmers and faced no difficulty in occupying gold medal of the
event.
His alluring struggle placed him in a prominent lead for gold medal of the event and he surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 52.89 seconds.
He was followed by Daniel Dias of BRA-ZZ, who stayed nearly twenty seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 11.65 seconds for silver medal of the event.
Dias was chased by Hendrik Herbst of WPA-WP, who proved his mettle for third position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.12 seconds.
Herbst was chased by Kevin F Paul of EP-EP, who proved his eligibility for the fourth position of the discipline and tapped the wall with the timing of 55.58 seconds.
The 20-year-old Paul remained significantly faster from his following rival, Achmat Hassiem of WPA-WP, who accomplished fifth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 57.29 seconds.
The 29-year-old Hassiem was chased by Jo van Heerden of NCASA-NC, who stayed nearly eight seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 05.31 seconds for sixth position.
Heerden was followed by J Bezuidenhout if KZNA-KZ, who ended his swim in seventh place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 07.60 seconds.
The last spot of the race was secured by Charles Parkin of EP-EP, who remained 2.13 seconds behind and ended his swim with the timing of 1 minute and 09.73 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders received medals and accolades for their praiseworthy efforts at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
