Charl Crous wins Men’s 50m back-stroke crown: Day one – 2011 All Africa Games
Charl Crous of South Africa gave a stunning performance in back-stroke final heat on day one of the 2011 All Africa Games at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Monday, September 5, 2011. About 53 countries are participating in the 2011
All African Games. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 50m back-stroke final.
In the corresponding splash, Charl Crous took home the gold medal on the podium after he touched the finishing wall and ended his swim to post a winning time of 26.06 seconds. While speaking about his swim, Charl Crous said that he was pleased with his individual
splash in the competition. More importantly, Crous looks determined to continue his winning form for futuristic heats.
In the corresponding swim, Jason Dunford of Kenya grabbed the silver medal on the podium by posting an impressive time of 26.19 seconds. After the heat, Dunford commented that he was not completely shocked with his swim, as he knew that he had to deliver
his best attempt in order to get a good position in the competition. On the other hand, the bronze medal was taken over by Garth Tune of South Africa after he touched the finishing wall in the respective meet with a winning time of 26.74 seconds.
Earlier, the Men’s 200m freestyle crown was taken over by Ahmed Mathlouthi of Tunisia with an impressive mark of 1 minute and 48.95 seconds. Darian Townsend of South Africa secured the silver medal on the podium by posting a striking time of 1 minute and
49.04 seconds, while Jean Basson grabbed the bronze medal by submitting a perfect time of 1 minute and 51.06 seconds. After the race, Basson stated that he was not hopeless about his swim, as he had enough fuel under his belt to give his best performance.
The arena gave an enthusiastic response to all the contestants of the meet and the winners were honoured with medals and accolades on behalf of their scintillating performances at the end of the session.
