Charl Schwartzel comes out in support of Rory McIlroy
Masters winner, Charl Schwartzel is supporting the young star Rory
McIlroy and thinks he has a bright future ahead. It was basically due to McIlroy's
meltdown that the player won his first major Championship. After spending more
time with him, the South African player Schwartzel is convinced that McIlroy is
destined for big achievements ahead.
Schwartzel travelled with McIlroy to Kuala Lumpur where the duo took part in the Maybank Malaysian Open. Same flight, same hotel, they came across each other a lot. The player said the way McIlroy handled post Masters Interaction with Schwartzel was spectacular.
"I mean, he must have been obviously hurting, but I think everyone else around him took it a lot further than he did. It looked like he forgot about it very quickly and got on with it and that's the sort of guy he is," said Schwartzel. "I think with that
sort of attitude he'll be back and winning certainly some major championships. It was his idea to have a photo of us on the plane with me wearing the green jacket."
McIlroy had a horrible experience in the Masters this year which consequently led to Schwartzel winning the tournament. The player had a four-shot lead going into the final round but came under pressure and hence couldn’t maintain it.
Securing a lead in the first three days of the first major Championship of the year, McIlroy posted an 80 in the final round. The player, who everyone expected to win, underwent a horrible Masters meltdown and tied for 15th place. Surely the northern
Irishman came in the eyes of the criticizing media and public for his silly mistakes. Many said that McIlroy didn’t have the ability to play under pressure and lost control of his nerves in the final round.
Schwartzel thought it was pretty cool of McIlroy to not go overboard with this disappointment and the way Rory McIlroy handled all of this, surely took some courage. Currently Schwartzel is at TPC Sawgrass in Florida in preparation for the world’s richest
tournament, the Players Championship which is scheduled to start this weekend.
