Charl Schwartzel dominates the Alfred Dunhill Championship after 3rd round
The South African professional golfer, Charl Schwartzel has everything in check as far as the Alfred Dunhill Championship is concerned.
As the third round came to a close, Schwartzel carded a second consecutive 8-under 64. He seems to be on the verge of a back to back title win.
The third day of the Alfred Dunhill Championship saw plenty of highs and lows.
The French golf professional, Gregory Bourdy, was leading the tournament until the South African came to soil his party. Playing under immense pressure, the Frenchman faltered and surrendered his first position.
With a horrific third round performance, Bourdy has made life difficult for himself and lost his chances of a possible title win in the South African tournament.
Schwartzel was tied at first place with the Frenchman after the second day came to a close.
Playing like a true champion, he recorded a total of ten birdies in the third round. His exploits on the front-nine included five birdies. The birdies came on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th and the 8th hole.
The second half of the course is comparatively longer than the front-nine. The South African demonstrated and equally exceptional performance on the back-nine and subsequently made five more birdies.
He went on a consecutive birdie run, on the 12th, 13th, 14th and the 15th hole. His last birdie of the day came on the ultimate hole of the third round.
Currently, the South African has a ten-shot advantage over the second place holder. He will enter the last round of the tournament with a score of 21-under 195.
However, the South African has to be cautious because golf is one of those sports in which it is not over till it is actually over.
When asked about his performance after the third day came to an end, Schwartzel said, "I'm just playing the game right at this stage. Thinking well and placing the ball in the right spots".
He continued, "Probably the biggest thing of all – I'm converting the putts".
"It's a nice comfort, and I'd rather be 10 ahead than nine ahead". He added, "Whatever lead you can build is great".
