Charl Schwartzel falls behind after brilliant start of the third round in Abu Dhabi: Live Leaderboard Part-2
Charl Schwartzel, leading the South African entourage from the front, soared to the top of the leaderboard with three bogeys on the front. He later dropped two shots while making the turn and has now fallen back on the leaderboard.
The Masters champion has pulled in solid rounds of 70 on the previous two days.
Italian prodigy Matteo Manassero, who thrashed the field on the second day, pulling in a stunning seven-under, 65, was poised on the right footings on the third day, until he dropped two shots to fall back.
Starting the day with a birdie on the third, he fell for a bogey on par-four, 5th. He carded another birdie before making the turn, only to fall for yet another at par-five, 10th. He is still playing for the remaining seven holes on
the stretch.
World number two Lee Westwood, who barely made the cut suffering from a burgeoning neck injury, has done well in the day, carding a round of four-under, 68.
Despite of a severe pain in the neck and left elbow, the Englishman maintained his composure to avoid any bogeys throughout the day. He is currently poised at joint 24th for the moment and will be hoping to post a strong finish if not a win on
the final day.
Also tied for the 24th spot, is the grizzled Padraig Harrington, who pulled in a birdie at the start of the day and lost it right on the next. He has played defensively for the rest of the day and has remained even-par. He is playing for the last
four holes of the day.
Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell jolted to the top ranks with a blistering three birdies on the front nine. He made the turn to fell for the first bogey of the day before carding his fourth birdie at par-four, 11th.
He again stumbled on a bogey at par-four, 14th and is currently working for the last four holes on the back nine.
McDowell had to suffer a devastating double-bogey on the 17th in the first round when he later found out that his trusted putter has developed a crack.
McDowell later lamented the loss and said, “It’s disappointing because I played really well today and I also have many fond memories of that particular driver as I won twice with it in 2010. If I had to single out the best drive I had with the driver it
was my tee shot at 16 on the last day of the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor so it has a lot of sentimental value".
