Charl Schwartzel is back home for 2010 Sunshine Tour’s SAA Pro-Am Invitational
The South African professional golfer, Charl Schwartzel is back from his tours in Europe and USA to take part in this week's SAA Pro-Am Invitational at Prince's Grant Golf Club in KwaZulu-Natal.
This course holds an important spot in Charl’s career as ten years back, he had claimed a big victory here while still being an amateur. The course was designed by Peter Matkovich along with Dale Hayes and the best possible word to describe it is majestic. With
an eye shot of the Indian Ocean, it nearly captures the charismatic colonial lifestyle of early Natal. Apart from representing history, the 72-par course also has all the present day challenges similar to those of Traditional Links Course in Scotland.
Meanwhile, a lot is expected of Charl Schwartzel this week after his impressive finish last week. But as for the player, he isn’t chasing a victory here. Instead, he wants to revise his form. Therefore, he is using the tournament to refine his game. According
to the 26-year-old, he is currently eyeing a title at the European Tour which would boost his career. Charles is reported to have made the cut in Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which is due from 7th October 2010 and also the Portugal Masters,
a week later.
Regarding the current tournament, Charles stated that he is one of the competitors on the field so he won’t stand behind. The winner of Africa Open as well as Joburg Open is also eyeing a lead at the Sunshine Tour's Order of Merit but he fears that he might
miss a cut in it. Schwartzel maintained that he is well aware of his position in the Order of Merit and is trying not to think too much about it. He has already won it thrice and if he seizes it for the fourth time, it will set him off in pursuit of Mark McNulty's
massive record of eight Order of Merit titles.
He added that it would be nice to be part of history books. Moreover, Alfred Dunhill Championship is one of his favorite tournaments, so he will surely enjoy his visit there. Also for the SA Open in Durban, the player seems confident that by December he
will be in perfect form to claim the title. The course north of Durban is stretched on 5384-yards which means that par won’t be an issue. At the same time, if weather conditions remain pleasant then some good low scoring can be done on the first 13 holes.
Media reports suggest that Charles would once again face his old rivals at the SAA pro-am Invitational. Earlier, when he came home for the opening Vodacom Business Origins of Golf event at Gardener Ross in April this year, he was pushed to the second place
by Jean Hugo, who won with a massive score of 62 while last week, Jaco Van Zyl snatched his fourth victory of the year at the Sunshine Tour. Last but not the least, the event’s defending champion, Adilson Da Silva is also in good form after his splendid victory
at the Zambia Open.
