Charl Schwartzel is ready to defend his title at Augusta National – Golf News
The Masters Champion, Charl Schwartzel, is ready to stun his opponents once again in the Masters Tournament next month, just as he did last year at the Augusta National to win the first major title of his career.
Since his win last year, Schwartzel has not been able to record a single victory in any of the tournaments he played.
However, he has always tried to give a tough time to his rivals on top of the leaderboard.
He played a total of 15 events in the 2011 season and made the cut in all of them, with three top-10 and 10 top-25 finishes in total.
Moreover, his start to the 2012 golf season was even better, registering two top-10 finishes in his three appearances so far on the PGA Tour.
Besides his impressive performances on the PGA Tour, he has an even better record on the European Tour.
That includes three top-five finishes in his six appearances in the first quarter of the 2012 European Tour season.
After a tie for the fourth position in the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship last week, he is ranked sixth on the Official World Golf Rankings.
Schwartzel finished just three strokes behind the leader, Justin Rose, after firing the final round of four-under par 68 on Sunday.
Therefore, the player believes that he has made great progress in improving his performance in the past couple of months, which will help him defend his title at the Augusta National.
He is currently set to play the PGA Tour’s Transitions Championship scheduled at the Salamander Golf & Spa Resort, Palm Harbor, Florida.
Many players, such as Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson, have decided not to play any event prior to the Masters.
However, Schwartzel has a totally different approach to follow. He believes that participating in the events this month will help him remain in momentum while entering the elite field of the Masters.
Schwartzel said that he has been performing superbly since the start of this season. Therefore, he cannot lose his momentum just to take some rest at such a crucial time of the year.
