Charl Schwartzel lifts the Alfred Dunhill Championship trophy
Sunday was no ordinary day for the South African golf professional, Charl Schwartzel, as he clinched one of the biggest tournaments on the Sunshine Tour.
He won the Alfred Dunhill Championship with a massive margin. Schwartzel finished the proceedings with a 12 stroke advantage. In his final round, Schwartzel carded a score of three-under par 69.
The South African golfer displayed a convincing performance throughout the tournament. Other than the first round, Schwartzel appeared to be in control.
The Frenchman, Gregory Bourdy exhibited excellence on the African fairways in the first round and claimed the lead.
With Schwartzel right behind in second place, Bourdy had to continue with the same performance he showed in the first round in order to put pressure on the South African.
However, sometimes for some people, things do not always go as planned and it seemed as if it just was not Bourdy’s cup of tea.
Schwartzel had an amazing run on the tour, as he just recently won the Thailand Open and dominated the Asian fairways before coming into the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
Schwartzel started exhibiting his touch of perfection and his ball control as he entered the second round of the tournament, scoring an eight-under 64.
He carried on with the same momentum going into the third round and carded another eight-under 64. By the end of the third round the South African had already put himself in a comfortable position.
All he had to do in the last round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship was to keep things simple and consolidate on the big lead he had.
Bourdy could not come up to the same level of play that the South African was demonstrating. Every time Schwartzel made contact with the ball with his club, he did something spectacular.
Schwartzel played an attacking game, which eventually paid off. The golf professional was all smiles as he hoisted the trophy over his head.
He was one of the top contenders of the tournament but with the show he put up at the Leopard Creek Golf Club, it seemed as if he was the only contender for the title.
