Charl Schwartzel makes his move in the South African Open
South African Charl Schwartzel finally made his move at the Serengeti Golf Club. The 2011 Masters Champion shot a second round of 68 in the second round of South African Open to climb up the leaderboard.
Charl could not complete his round on Friday as the thunderstorms halted the play. However, he finished his second round early on Saturday.
Carding a four-under was a decent score at the Serengeti Golf Club. Schwartzel completed his remaining four holes in style on Saturday morning.
He sank two birdies on the four holes. This would have given tremendous confidence to the South African.
"I was disappointed yesterday, because I got it going nicely and then that weather came in. As the weather changed, I made bogey and they called it off. I went to sleep last night with not a very nice feeling," said the 28-year-old.
Currently the 28-year-old is tied with Lloyd Saltman at an eight-under after 36 holes.
The way Schwartzel played, it seemed that he was determined to turn things around for himself. His expressions and body language was pretty commanding as he hit the balls with precision.
"I was quite determined to come out this morning and see if I could get it to eight-under, which I did. I'm very pleased with that and I put myself right back in there".
At the moment, the 2011 Master Champion is five strokes behind the leader, Henrik Stenson, who absolutely dazzled the field with his bogey-free round of seven-under.
At this point in time, Charl is definitely in contention for the title. All he needs to do is play some error free golf and chances will fall his way.
"I just need to keep doing what I have been doing and hit some good tee shots, and I hope to set up some birdies," he said.
Another South African, Merrick Bremner, the overnights leader, will be teeing up with Henrik Stenson and the Swede, Magnus A Carlsson in the third round.
Bremner is at the second position, just three strokes behind Stenson, and one ahead of Carlsson after 36 holes.
