Charl Schwartzel selects Braai for the Champions dinner menu – Golf News
The reigning Masters Champion, Charl Schwartzel, has expressed his excitement mixed with nervousness on selecting the menu for the Champions Dinner.
Schwartzel outshined his opponents last year with four back-to-back birdies on the final holes of the tournament to earn his first major victory of the career.
In response to that, he has been honoured by the Augusta National officials to have the right of selecting the cuisines for the Champions Dinner this year.
Schwartzel told that he was excited to know that he will be selecting the menu for the dinner to be served on Tuesday night. At the same time, he was confused and a bit nervous as to what he should select and what not.
Moreover, he said that he was nervous about being among the past champions who have always been his role models in the game of golf.
"I am nervous, to be honest. I am nervous and very excited," Schwartzel said.
"I'm going to be around past champions and legends I never got to see play. We see the highlights of how these guys did it and I'm going to be in a room with them. But there is a bit of nerves that come with it".
He selected a South African dish called ‘Braai’ that consists of grilled and marinated filet mignon, chicken b*****s, lamb chops and boerewors for the dinner.
"It's really a sociable thing in South Africa -- 90 percent of the people in South Africa have braais just about every single weekend," Schwartzel said.
Biltong sticks, seafood, cheeses and slices were added to the appetizer’s menu. Ice-cream and chocolate sauce will be a part of the desserts menu.
"I've got all variety of meat. I've got some good ice cream with chocolate sauce," he said. "That's what I'm looking forward to the most".
Schwartzel also gave a suggestion to the event organisers that he may cook the meat for the guest. However, he was told that he will not be having much time to meet the guests otherwise.
Thereafter, he changed his mind because of his desire to meet the great players who will be attending the dinner on Tuesday.
The legendary Fred Couples said that it has always been fun to be part of the dinner. Also, it is observed that 90 per cent of the players prefer to eat what the past champion adds to the menu.
