Charl Schwartzel shifts gears in the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship
The South African professional golfer, Charl Schwartzel has been having a consistent run of good form since the past few months now.
It is this form that has made him one of the top contenders for any tournament that he participates in.
The second round was a day that the South African will definitely cherish. He played like he really wants to win the tournament. It seemed as if he is a man on a mission.
With complete focus on his game, the 28-year-old, Schwartzel, recorded a score of 64 in the second round.
He started off his second round magnificently. Managing to card birdies on the first and the second hole gave him the much needed confidence.
The South African carded 6 birdies and an eagle while playing a flawless game.
After having recorded two birdies on the first two holes, Schwartzel gained momentum and went on to make a birdie on the 5th hole.
The first-nine is relatively shorter than the back-nine of the Leopard Creek Golf Club course. On the back-nine, the South African made three birdies on the 11th, 15th and the 17th hole.
The shot he struck on the 18th hole did justice to the way he played throughout the day. He made an eagle on the final hole and finished the day with a bang.
The results he pulled off on the second day placed him on the top spot of the leaderboard with Gregory Bourdy, who has been leading the Alfred Dunhill Championship since day one.
After the second round, expressing views on his game, Schwartzel said, “It was there for the taking and luckily enough I took advantage early on”.
He continued, “I could have made a few more, but we can't get too greedy. All in all a very good round and I've put myself in a very good position”.
Bourdy played one of the best rounds of his career. He is playing like a man committed to achieving something big. With the top contenders of the tournament close behind the Frenchman, he will have to make the most out of the advantage he has gained in the past two rounds.
Although Bourdy has Schwartzel breathing down his neck, he has not broken down under pressure, which is a good sign for the Frenchman.
