Charl Schwartzel’s final day on the Arabian Course – DP World Championship
Charl Adriaan Schwartzel had to produce something spectacular on Sunday to win the DP World Tour Championship.
At the end of third day, Schwartzel was placed four shots behind the leaders, while Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy topped the leader board.
Louis Oosthuizen and Luke Donald, both of whom shared a one-stroke lead advantage over the African, were placed at second. However, they trailed the leaders with a three-shot deficit.
While Rose and McIlroy went on displaying some stunning golf, Schwartzel was not at par with the two leaders.
On the final day, he made his first birdie on the fourth hole, completing the hole in two shots on a par of 3, and, on the following hole, he stayed at par.
The sixth hole did not prove to be fruitful for the African, as he went one-over with 4 shots, but capitalized on it in the next round.
As the African went on to the succeeding three holes, Schwartzel remained at par and finally came up with a birdie on the 11th.
His two bogeys came on the 6th and the 12th hole. Driving the ball to perfection on the 14th hole, Schwartzel scored a birdie on the longest hole of the day, completing it in four shots.
The man from Johannesburg registered six birdies and two bogeys on the final day. In comparison to McIlroy and Rose, Schwartzel had an average round and was not much to talk about in the end.
The final round changed the outcome of the game, as during the first three days, things were more or less even for the top players.
McIlroy stayed consistent with his game and carded a six-under par on Sunday.
When the first 13 holes on the last day did not go according to the way of the European, he scored five consecutive birdies, with which he closed the proceedings of his DP World Tour Championship.
Rose, on the other hand, had the most successful last round as compared to any other player in the tournament. Carding a -10, he came within two shots to claim the title.
Schwartzel did not produce the required results on the last day to claim the title, but with a four-under par it was enough to put him in a respectable third position.
