Charles-Antoine Brezac downs Miloslav Mecir to advance into second round – Guzzini Challenger 2011
Charles-Antoine Brezac of France eased past Slovakia’s Miloslav Mecir in straight sets at the Trofeo Francesco Guzzini 2011, an ATP Challenger Tour event held on the hard courts in Recanati, Italy. He geared up well to earn a 6-4,
6-4 victory over the 23-year-old Slovak to advance into the second round on Tuesday.
World number 296 Brezac displayed brilliant skills to dump the world number 304 Mecir in straight sets on their first meeting. He has now secured a second round spot after earning success in this eighty-one minute match.
25-year-old Frenchman convincingly entered the hard court and held his opening serve in the second game to level the scores at 1-1. He then took the first blood at 3-2 but tied the scores at 3-3 after gifting away his serve in
the very next game. Brezac went on rage mode and broke to love in the seventh game to eventually seal the set with a 6-4 score line. He produced a poor first serve share of 43 percent as compared to Mecir’s 72 percent but earned a perfect win on it.
Brezac raised the level of his game in the final set as he bagged entire serves without facing a breakpoint or any difficulty. He required a single breakpoint opportunity to claim the victory which he duly earned in the ninth game
and converted it to his advantage. The Frenchman clobbered a better first serve share of 68 percent as compared to Slovak’s 59 percent and registered an impressive 76 percent win on it. Brezac further spiced the set by slamming three aces and eventually sealed
the deal with a 6-4 score line again.
He will next face Dane Frederik Nielsen who upset fifth seeded Belgian Ruben Bemelmans in straight sets.
The Dane made quick in-roads by converting one out of two breakpoint opportunities to his advantage in the opening set and clinched the set with a 6-3 victory.
In the second set, Nielsen again conceded zero breakpoint and founded two breakpoint chances. However, he failed to convert them to his advantage and took the set to a tie-breaker.
The 27-year-old prevailed in it and eventually bagged the set with a 7-6(4) win.
