Charles Barkley hits out at Tiger Woods before the WGC Bridgestone Invitational on PGA Tour
Charles Barkley, once an old friend of Tiger Woods and a former NBA star golfer, has finally spoken about his relationship with Woods after an uneasy silence of two long years.
The duo parted ways some two years back when Woods hit the headlines regarding several of his extramarital affairs which involved pornstars, night club strippers, waitresses to next door teenager and Barkley chose to keep quite over his estranged relations
with Woods until recently.
“It's been very frustrating to watch everything that has transpired,” Barkley said Wednesday on ESPN New York 1050's The Mike Lupica Show, “and getting rid of Steve Williams was probably the last straw for me.”
The 48-year-old star reminisced about his time he spent with Woods and about the 15-year-long friendship they shared while both ruled the summit of their respective sports. Barkley however, took particular care of not lashing out directly at Woods and stated
that he is still wondering what went wrong with Woods and how he was never able to figure out that something has gone wrong with his old friend.
Barkley and Michael Jordan both have remained close friends of Woods and they are often collectively blamed for all the mess Woods landed himself into. There have also been rumours that the trio had been together on several of their perverted adventures
but no sooner Woods suffered a car accident, both Jordan and Barkley disappeared and severed their relations with Woods. Jordan, although remained in contact and is still a good friend of Woods.
“It was interesting sitting back and listening and hearing me and Michael corrupted him, [yet] we knew none of this stuff was going in,” Barkley said.
Barkley also defended his relationship with Woods and said that he was still amazed why they broke off like that and had often wondered why they hadn’t talked to each other for such a longtime.
“I'm sitting back like everyone else and saying, what the h**l is going on? I just feel sad, to be honest with you,” Barkley said. “I don't know why we haven't talked to him in a couple of years.”
35-year-old Woods will be returning to mainstream golf after a lapse of 11 weeks, recovering from a lingering left knee injury. He has not won a single event in more than two years and has now slide down to number 28th on the Official World Golf
Rankings (OWGR).
WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club has been one of Woods favourite hunting grounds in his 15 years of glorious career and has won the event for a whooping seven times in his 11 starts. Barkley supported Woods bid for the summit in the
upcoming event and wished to see him at the top once again.
