Charles Barkley questions Michael Jordan’s calibre as an executive – NBA Update
Sir Charles Barkley, the former Houston Rockets centre, who is now an analyst at TNT doesn’t like to hold back his thoughts, even if they are about his good friend and the greatest NBA player ever, Michael Jordan.
Jordan is currently the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, a team which holds NBA worst 4-29 record and had it not been for a win against the Toronto Raptors nearly two weeks back, the North Carolina franchise would have lost all the last 20 of their
games.
There has been a lot of criticism on Jordan’s moves since taking over in 2006 and on Thursday, on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000, Barkley unloaded on his fellow Hall of Famer. However, according to him, it’s not MJ’s fault entirely;
"I think the biggest problem has been I don't know if he has hired enough people around him who he will listen to," Barkley said. "One thing about being famous is the people around you, you pay all their bills so they very rarely disagree with you because
they want you to pick up the check. They want to fly around on your private jet so they never disagree with you. I don't think Michael has hired enough people around him who will disagree."
Jordan has never been a good judge of talent. His follies as a manager date back to his days at the Toronto Raptors when he picked Kwame Brown as the number one draft pick in 2001. Then after taking over in Charlotte, Jordan has been involved in as many
as 13 trades. His decision of letting Raymond Felton go in the free agency created a rift between him and the then coach, Larry Brown and eventually the later quit in 2009 and Paul Silas took over.
In the days that followed, the franchise sent their first ever All-Star Gerald Wallace to the Portland Trail Blazers and that followed by the exit of Stephen Jackson. When this season started, there was a common perception that the Bobcats were under sized
and once sorted out be teams, they will struggle to compete. That turned out to be true and at the moment it is hard to see, where the franchise will get their next win from.
