Charles Francis of Ppo pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on third day of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Saturday, July 7.
Francis faced tough competition from Matthew Swanston of Newmarket Stingrays but succeeded in overpowering him over the finishing end for gold medal.
He demonstrated his nerve-wrecking form in the double lap backstroke discipline and made his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal with an effort of 56.58 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained just 0.02 seconds ahead of Swanston, who hit the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing a time of 56.60 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by his teammate, Jeffrey Swanston, who stayed 0.29 seconds slower from him and transpired on the finishing end as third position holder with the timing of 56.89 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Andrew Ford of Guelph Marlins Aquatic Club, who stayed full body length apart and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by completing his race in a time of 57.86 seconds.
The 22-year-old Ford was chased by Adam Best of Greater Ottawa Kingfish S.C., who was only 0.02 seconds slower and sprinted his way towards the wall as fifth fastest finisher with the timing of 57.88 seconds.
Similarly, Best was trailed by Thibault Delecluse of Ppo, who stayed almost half body length behind and tapped the finishing end as sixth best finisher with the timing of 58.57 seconds.
Seventh position of the 100m discipline was secured by Ivan Cocunubo of Club de Natation de Gatineau, who stayed one body length slower from his preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing wall with an effort of 59.39 seconds.
Cocunubo was chased by Felix Cote-Leduc of Ppo, who remained 0.78 seconds slower from upsetting his foregoing finisher and reached the finishing blockade as eighth position holder by producing an effort of 1 minute and 00.17 seconds.
In addition, Francis was pleased with his notable efforts in the 100m discipline and aroused expectations of his supporters by articulating his desire of excelling at the higher levels of international swimmer.
