Charles Houchin and Barry Murphy outshine in swimming events: Day two – 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1
Charles G Houchin of West and Barry J Murphy of East impressed in their swimming events on second day of the 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1 on Thursday, November 17 at the University of Michigan Pool.
The session ended after the conclusion of 400m freestyle, 50m breast-stroke, 100m butterfly and 50m back-stroke in Men’s corner.
The first event of the session was 400m freestyle, where the 24-year-old Houchin displayed his gruelling efforts and claimed the title of the event. Houchin remained inevitably strong for the top spot of the event as he clocked a time of 3 minutes and 52.08
seconds for the title.
With his gold winning effort, he remained 5.48 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Jean Basson of East, who occupied the victory stand for silver medal with an of 3 minutes and 57.56 seconds. Basson was trailed by Adam J Dejong of West, who 1.62 seconds
behind and climbed the podium for third position by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 59.18 seconds.
Next was the 50m breast-stroke event, where Murphy produced a wonderful time of 28.12 seconds for gold medal. He faced strong competition from Alex R Hetland of West, who was just 0.04 seconds behind him on the concluding wall and surfaced as second position
holder with an effort of 28.16 seconds.
In the meantime, Murphy’s team-member, Christopher Burckle remained only 0.74 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and emerged on the podium for bronze medal with an effort of 28.90 seconds.
Subsequently, Jason E Dunford of East proved his mettle for the title of 100m butterfly. The 24-year-old Dunford remained considerably ahead of his competitors and reached the finishing end with a timing of 52.77 seconds for gold medal. He was followed by
Christopher D Brady of West, who was nearly one second behind his former finisher and reached the podium for silver medal with a timing of 53.60 seconds.
Brady remained 0.41 seconds away from the silver medallist and ended third with a timing of 54.01 seconds.
The last event of the session was Men’s 50m back-stroke, where Eugene D Godsoe of East grabbed the title of the event. The 23-year-old Godsoe remained prominently ahead of his rivals on the finishing wall and reported a time of 25.68 seconds for gold medal.
He was almost half a second ahead of his following swimmer, Darian R Townsend of West, who submitted a time of 26.05 seconds for silver medal.
Moments later, the arena witnessed a laudable effort of Townsend’s team-mate, George R Bovell, who stayed 0.37 seconds away from his former finisher and ended his sprint in a time of 26.42 seconds for third position.
In addition, the session completed after the completion of all scheduled events while winners received accolades after the session.
